We approach every project with enthusiasm
At NBC/ARHITECT, we say that we approach every project with enthusiasm. The word comes from the Greek enthousiasmós, originally associated with divine inspiration. For us, it expresses the inner energy that drives us to explore, experiment, and believe that a space can become better for the people who will use it.
Enthusiasm does not mean that the process is always easy. A promising idea must navigate budget constraints, technical requirements, permits, changes, and sometimes difficult decisions. From the first sketch to its realization, a project evolves. Some solutions are set aside; others emerge precisely because we have been challenged to look at the problem from a different perspective. Enthusiasm is what keeps us engaged, even when the initial spark of inspiration must be sustained through hard work and patience.
I have also explored this connection between creation and personal growth in my book, “Esti arhitectul vietii tale” (You Are the Architect of Your Own Life). The title suggests an analogy that resonates deeply with me: just as a building takes shape through a series of decisions, our lives are also built over time. We begin with intentions, encounter constraints, reconsider what we once believed to be certain, and learn to work with the reality before us.
We cannot control every circumstance, just as we cannot anticipate everything that will happen throughout a project. What we can decide, however, is how much care and attention we bring to what we create, what we choose to preserve, what we change, and why we do it all in the first place.
This is why enthusiasm is more than the excitement of a new beginning. It is the willingness to carry an idea forward until it becomes a place where someone can live, work, learn, or reconnect with themselves. And sometimes, as we give shape to a space, we discover that we, too, are changing along with it.
