The cube of peace

The cube of peace will be placed on the time line between the two islands. That fact symbolizes the continuity of time, but also the idea that a world peace that lasts not only today or tommorow, but forever must be achieved. Peace is a fragile thing and depends on us to keep it alive. The peace has to be present in any conditions.
The white cube floats above the sea, creating a protective space, a symbol that binds the present and the future, today and tomorrow.

In this cube there will be a cylindical shaped area which touches the bottom of the sea. The water will be eliminated from this cylinder, and the sea bed will become visible. An olive tree will be planted and kept in good conditions( with adequate warmth and nutrient inducements).
Just as an olive tree needs permanent care and attention in difficult conditions, the peace has to be kept alive as an organical structure. The circular space placed on the seabed will resist, acting as a shield in extreme conditions, and giving birth to a peace zone.

The tube that connects the two islands will be made as a thin carbon structure (multiple structural carbon fibre cables), closed in order to protect the traffic from the adverse weather conditions. The tube will be vertically divided in three main areas. The top level will accommodate a pedestrian walkway (there is the possibility of using mobile sidewalks). The middle level will accommodate a 2 way rail or cable system, with small shuttles for maximum 30-50 persons. The technical space will be placed at the third, and lower level of the tube. In order to dampen the eventual see-saw movements due to wind forces or internal movement, systems that provide additional stability will be taken into account (complarable to the pendulum stabilisation systems used in some buildings/bridges in order to dampen the earthquake induced movement). The rainbow colors, which are considered a modern symbol of peace, will be used for the exterior of the tube.

The connection required between the two continents will be achieved using a tunnel (composed of two main tunnels connected by pressure relief ducts and a service and escape tunnel). The tunnels will be designed only for railway traffic, in order to avoid any incidents. That seems to be the most efficient system for the extreme conditions of this area.

The two underground train stations (under both islands) will be connected to the tube bridge terminals by means of two vertical shafts, designed to appear from the outside as periscopes that look each other. The possibility of building a third railway station.
